Can't Find What You Need?
LookingAtYou

Wherever you are in this site, just look for the "Can't Find It?" search box in the left column.  It's easy to find what you need!
Now help me get out of here, would you!?

If you're wondering why we believe Hidden Fairways deserve more attention than they generally receive, check out this comment from golf writer, Jaime Diaz...

"In a growth spurt built on consumerism run amok, the game ended up with too much of the wrong stuff - overly watered and manicured golf courses, giant clubhouses, high green fees and membership dues, and a lot of talk about the golf industry and not enough about the golfer.  The essential game got lost."
Jaime Diaz, Golf World Magazine, November 30, 2009 (Read the full article.)

AW_5-11_18Sunrise_350We've made it simple for you to identify and get detailed information on the Hidden Fairways course(s) that are perfect for your next golf adventure.  The menu on the left will take you directly to any of our courses, if you already know which course interests you.  Or CLICK HERE for a map of Hidden Fairways courses.  Another option would be to read the brief leading paragraphs below, and click thru to the course that tickles your fancy.  And finally, if you know what  kind of course you're looking for... or what area of the South you are interested in travelling to,  try our "Find A Course" page.  There, we've grouped courses into categories, including "Courses Along the Interstates", "Mountain Golf", "Owner-built Courses", "World-Class Courses" and "Stay-and-Play Courses".

Located just south of Augusta, in Keysville, Georgia, Applewood Golf Course was for many years referred to as the "Best Kept Secret in Augusta" for its reasonable rates, enjoyable yet challenging layout and superior conditioning.

Alma, Georgia

See the Blueberry Plantation Photo Gallery

Blueberry Plantation Golf & Country Club, in Alma, Georgia is everything I look for in a Hidden Fairways course.

  • The course is affordable, challenging yet playable, and offers a great round of golf to players of most any level.
  • It's well conditioned, thanks to Superintendent, Wade Bowen, and seems to be on a path of constant improvement.
  • Blueberry Plantation is out-of-the-way… after all, when was the last time you were in Alma, Georgia?
  • It's public, and the staff is incredibly welcoming.
  • And its story? Well, on some levels it's almost a 60's sitcom, in the tradition of Gilligan's Island.

Rising Fawn, Georgia

See the Canyon Ridge Photo Gallery

Canyon Ridge, which opened in 2005, is one of those courses you'll never forget.  It's simply stunning. The course was beautifully designed by Rick Robbins to complement a gorgeous piece of mountain real estate just 30 minutes south of Chattanooga in far northwest Georgia. Routed expertly through mountain meadows, across streams and along dramatic natural rock landscapes, this course will take your breath away.

Oxford, Alabama

See the Cider Ridge Photo Gallery

One of the biggest surprises about Cider Ridge is that it's a municipal course in Oxford, Alabama! This gorgeous, scenic and very challenging golf course was designed by Bill Bergin, and was originally conceived as a high-end private facility.

When I first drove on the property at Cumberland Lake Golf Course, I felt comfortable. Sometimes a course just feels right to me, and this was one of those courses. I was there to map the course for GolfBuddy, so I had time to look it over carefully. By the time I finished the survey, I felt like I'd found a worthy addition to Hidden Fairways.

Hanceville, Alabama

See the Cullman Photo Gallery

Located just off I-65, less than 40 miles north of Birmingham, Cullman Golf Course is what most municipal golf courses aspire to be.  It's well-managed, a great track, and has the enthusiastic support of the community.

Flat Rock, Alabama

See the Dogwood Hills Photo Gallery

Dogwood Hills is a golf course you need to know about. It's a Golf Digest Four-Star-Rated facility, so it's a golf course worthy of note. And it's conveniently located not too far off Interstate 59, just south of Chattanooga. But when you add the story of owners Bryce and Doris Slater, who built the course with their own hands, it's even more interesting.

Fargo, Georgia

See the Fargo Photo Gallery

Fargo Golf Course is the only 9-hole course currently listed among my Hidden Fairways. And it's also the only Hidden Fairways course with an Honor Box. This doesn't mean that there won't be others in the future, but this course deserves its unique position because it stood out among all the 9-hole courses I've visited in the past year as by far the most beautifully maintained.

Green River, Utah

See the Green River Photo Gallery

Green River is only the second 9-hole course I've added to Hidden Fairways, and I do it with a smile.  I genuinely like this place.  Green River State Park is just north of I-70, in Southeast Utah, in one of the few areas of the state that can be aptly described as bleak.  That being said, Green River State Park, home to this golf course, is a welcome oasis as one drives north on Highway 19, off Interstate 70. Northport, Alabama

See the Hidden Meadows Photo Gallery

The land that Hidden Meadows Golf Club occupies was originally a sod farm... a great spot for a golf course, especially when that sod farm is surrounded by beautiful rolling hills near Tuscaloosa, outside Northport, Alabama.

Townsend, Tennessee

See the Laurel Valley Photo Gallery

I love national parks… who doesn't?… but a golf course next to a national park is maybe just a notch up the scale on my happy meter.  So when Hidden Fairways member, Garrett Roberson, nominated Laurel Valley as a potential Hidden Fairway I was eager to check it out.

Sparta, Tennessee

RiverWatch Golf Resort, outside Sparta, Tennessee is slightly mis-named, given that there's no resort to be found, but this is a wonderful golf course and well worth the trip. The course sits in rolling Middle Tennessee farmland roughly 60 miles east of Nashville. Beautiful countryside and a wonderful course.

Midway, Utah

See the Soldier Hollow Photo Gallery

There are few golf courses on the planet that I know better than Soldier Hollow, in Wasatch Mountain State Park, outside Midway, Utah.  Not so much as a player, though I've played it several times.  But since the Fall of 2011, I've photographed the course many times, under a wide variety of circumstances. Interested in Golf Course Photography?

ME, TOO! In fact, it's how I make my living these days...

My genuine love for golf courses, and the work I've done to establish Hidden Fairways has had the somewhat unexpected... but genuinely appreciated... benefit of leading me down a path that has become a late-in-life career in photography.  My golf course work in Utah has led to a dream project... photographing the state's parks for Utah State Parks.  There are also plans underway for a trip to China to photograph several courses in the Spring.  Life is good.  If you'd like to see more of my work, you can download my current golf portfolio here, or visit my photo web site for a full range of my current work.
