Canyon Ridge, which opened in 2005, is one of those courses you'll never forget. It's simply stunning. The course was beautifully designed by Rick Robbins to complement a gorgeous piece of mountain real estate just 30 minutes south of Chattanooga in far northwest Georgia. Routed expertly through mountain meadows, across streams and along dramatic natural rock landscapes, this course will take your breath away.

I was there to map the course for GolfBuddy, so I had time to look it over carefully. By the time I finished the survey, I felt like I'd found a worthy addition to Hidden Fairways.

Dogwood Hills is a golf course you need to know about. It's a Golf Digest Four-Star-Rated facility, so it's a golf course worthy of note. And it's conveniently located not too far off Interstate 59, just south of Chattanooga. But when you add the story of owners Bryce and Doris Slater, who built the course with their own hands, it's even more interesting.

Fargo Golf Course is the only 9-hole course currently listed among my Hidden Fairways. And it's also the only Hidden Fairways course with an Honor Box. This doesn't mean that there won't be others in the future, but this course deserves its unique position because it stood out among all the 9-hole courses I've visited in the past year as by far the most beautifully maintained.

Soldiers Creek Golf Course was one of those happy surprises I stumbled on while I was mapping courses for GolfBuddy. It's in the Gulf Shores area of Alabama, which isn't exactly out-of-the-way, but it's not one of the big-name courses typically associated with Alabama coast golf. Its reputation locally, though, is that it's Baldwin County's "Players Place to Play".
