Located in the Gulf Shores area near the eastern shore of Mobile Bay, Rock Creek Golf Club is a first-rate facility. Designed by Earl Stone, the 18 hole championship golf course is challenging, while forgiving… and incredibly enjoyable to play.
After walking almost 250 courses for GolfBuddy this year, Rock Creek still stands out in my memory as one of the finest I visited.
I can't say enough about the course. It's well-designed, beautifully maintained by Course Superintendent, Jeff Hill, and his crew and offers all the challenge one would want. From the tips, the course measures over 7000 yards, but the shorter tees are positioned so players of all levels can enjoy this quality track without being overwhelmed. Elevation changes on some of the holes give Rock Creek a bit of a mountain course flavor, which is odd, given it's coastal location. The greens are large and undulating, so hitting one in regulation is no guarantee of scoring success.
Rock Creek Golf Club's practice facility is excellent, the club house rivals the best private facilities and the golf shop has everything a golfer needs. Quality instruction is available from the club's PGA pros, led by Kevin Whitney, Head PGA Professional. And the staff at Rock Creek will make you feel right at home, whether you're most comfortable at fine private clubs or you're a committed public golfer.
Rock Creek has been recognized by a variety of industry groups as an outstanding course, so if you haven't heard of it, it's your own fault! The National Golf Foundation named them a Top 10 Facility for Customer Loyalty and Satisfaction, Golf Magazine recognized them in 2002, 2004 and 2006, and from 1998 to 2008, Golf Digest has given the club 4.5 Stars.
