The Trails at Chickasaw Point is a lovely golf course, and a great example of the success a community can have when it takes over its developer-owned golf course.  On a small budget, with great volunteer support from the community, these folks are providing their community and visitors, alike, a very enjoyable golf experience.

Five years ago, the golf course at Chickasaw Point was in decline. Ownership had let the course deteriorate, and it was no longer a community asset in which residents could take pride. Poor maintenance and lax management had led to a steep fall-off in business and the course was close to being shut down. There were many avid golfers in the area, though, so the residents of Chickasaw Point banded together to purchase the golf course. They then embarked on a program of revitilization that has resulted in a fine course that is the centerpiece of this friendly development just across the Georgia border and only minutes off Interstate 85 in South Carolina.

Designed by Parker Gibson, The Trails at Chickasaw Point is a lovely 18-hole, par-72 course with 4 sets of tees, allowing players of all levels to find an appropriate challenge. It's only 6135 yards long, but don't expect to bomb your way around the course. You'll need to think your way around this one. There are plenty of elevation changes, tricky greens, and several water hazards that can wreak havoc on your round. But if you're accurate, you can expect excellent lies in the fairways and greens that will roll well. Each hole at The Trails is separated from the other so if, like me, you enjoy solitude on a golf course, you'll really enjoy this track. This course sits on some beautiful property just north of Lake Hartwell, and you'll find great views throughout the course.

Less than an hour from Greenville or from the The Mall of Georgia… and only about 5 miles off Interstate 85… The Trails at Chickasaw Point is worth the drive. Rates are very reasonable, and it's a beautiful course.

Best Feature: This is a very interesting and fun course to play but to me, the involvement of the community is a prime feature. At a time when the corporate golf course business model is under stress, this course thrives.
